On 15th June 2011, I witnessed my very first Lunar Eclipse from Doha, Qatar! It was absolutely beautiful & we had our eyes glued to the moon mesmerised! The sky was clear & the full moon looked brilliant to make the whole experience wonderful.
A Lunar Eclipse occurs when the Earth comes between the Sun & the Moon and the shadow on the Earth falls on the moon. A Lunar Eclipse can be Total or Partial & occurs only during a Full Moon. The Eclipse on June 2011 was a rare Total Lunar Eclipse in which the center point of the Earth's shadow passes the moon. It lasted a whole 100 minutes & is said to be the longest in more than a decade!
The next Central Total Lunar Eclipse will be only in 2018! The shadow of the Earth slowly covered the moon giving it a reddish brown colour & after a while we could see the moon coming out of the shadow, shining as bright as ever. I was simply fascinated watching the eclipse!
The best part of the eclipse was Mathew saying 'Moon' 'Moon' pointing his little fingers up to the sky!!
